WHAT IS SCREEN PRINTING
Screen printing is the process where stencils (screens) are created based on your design. Each color in your design has it’s own screen (stencil). Specialty inks are then used to print onto the garment through these screens. At UrbanFly Apparel, we work with many organizations, schools, camps, fundraisers and businesses to bring your creative ideas to life.
Our standard production time is typically 7-10 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) on most items. Please note: Production time begins after customer proof approval and payment has been received. We do offer RUSH service at an additional charge.
Production time does not include shipping and transit times. We generally ship via USPS or UPS and have no control over their delivery practices or times for delivery so please make sure you place your orders in plenty of time to account for shipping.
For screen printing, our minimum quantity is 12 pcs. If you require a lesser quantity, please visit our DTG (Direct to Garment) page as this may be a great alternative for you.
How Do I Choose A Garment?
We’ve partnered with three of the largest suppliers of blank apparel in the country in order to offer our customers a wide variety of options. View our product catalogs for the latest styles and trusted brands to fit your needs and budget.
Catalog 1 (titled Company Casuals) is our main catalog.

Placing an order is easy.
We encourage you to view our apparel catalog to see the huge selection of imprintable options. Our catalogs have everything from t-shirts to outerwear and more.
If you have a specific brand/style in mind, just let us know. Otherwise, we will quote you on one of our most popular budget friendly styles which include t-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, tank tops, just to name a few.
To start the order process, complete the FAST QUOTE form with as much detail as possible so we can provide you with an accurate quote in a timely fashion. From there, your quote will provide pricing details. Simply, submit payment and your order is automatically forwarded to our design team.
You will receive an electronic proof of your design for review. Once approved, it’s off to production where we print your order. Our standard production time is 7-10 business days.
After you receive your online quote and payment has been made, your order is moved into the design phase. Here is where our design team works on your logo. If you submitted hi-resolution artwork, we ensure it meets our quality standards to achieve the best print possible. If we are creating a logo, you will work with our designers to bring your creative ideas to life.
From there, you will receive an online proof of your design. We allow up to two (2) revisions without any additional charge. Once you approve the design, it’s off to production. Our production time is generally 7-10 business days – however, we strive to complete orders well within that time frame.
You’ll receive automatic email notifications and status updates regarding your order. We keep you informed throughout the entire process.
Unfortunately, we can not accept orders placed over the phone. There is a lot of information that needs to be obtained in order to provide you with an accurate quote. We prefer you complete our quote request form to ensure we understand your printing needs. This also creates an accurate history during the ordering process.
However, you are certainly welcomed to call, message or email us with any questions you may have. We are always happy to assist you.
How do I check on the status of my order?
Our improved system now provides you with order updates and status notifications automatically via email. No need to log in anywhere, remember passwords or make numerous phone calls. We keep you informed throughout the entire production and shipping process.

Each color has it’s own screen (stencil). The more colors in your design, the more screens have to be created. Example – if you have a three (3) color logo to be printed on the front of a shirt, then three (3) screens/stencils have to be created for the front print.
Each print location have their own screens (stencils) as well. The more colors to each print location, the more screens have to be created. This is why screen printers always ask about the total colors in your design. Without having that information, it is virtually impossible to provide you with a quote.
The type of garment you select will greatly affect pricing. There are hundreds of different types of garments to choose from ranging from budget t-shirts to premium quality fabrics. Please note, dark/colored fabrics require an underbase, which adds an additional color to your design.
Example – if you have a two (2) color logo to be printed on a dark garment, it is now a three (3) color logo.
Pricing is quantity driven – meaning, the more you order, the more you save. As you order in larger quantities, you benefit significantly from the price breaks put in place.
When screen printing on dark colored garments, the inks tend to blend into the fabric, leaving a dull, faded print. In order to achieve brilliant colors and good print quality, a white underbase is first screened onto the garment and all colors in your design are printed on top of the underbase. This is how screen printing is performed on dark colored garments.
So how does this affect pricing? If you are selecting a dark colored garment for print, to accommodate for an underbase, an additional “print color” is added to your design. This is why with all screen printers, printing on darker garments costs more compared to printing on white or light colored fabrics.
In the below example, we are screen printing a two (2) color logo onto a dark garment. Since it is a dark colored fabric, it would require an underbase. So our two (2) color print now becomes a three (3) color print order (2 colors + underbase).
Every order will receive an online proof for customer approval. When viewing online proofs, please keep in mind these are computer generated versions of the overall layout and the finished product may look slightly different. The proof is to reference logo placement and to view colors selected for print. Everyone’s monitor /screen will display the colors in the proof slightly different. It is the customer’s responsibility to view the proof in it’s entirety and check for any errors. Once approved, changes can not be made to the design or layout.
Also, the type of garment, blend and color all affect the final print color. This is normal and we try our best to counter act this whenever possible.
Below are our Standard Print Colors we have available. If you require a specific color or shade (PMS Color Matching), please refer to the next section titled “custom ink colors“.
Please keep in mind when printing on dark garments, an underbase is required which adds one additional color to your design. Example: if your logo has two colors and is to be printed on dark apparel, it becomes a three (3) color logo.
Note – the colors on the chart are for reference only as everyone’s monitor and/or home printer will display these colors a bit differently.
For specialty inks and colors not listed on our standard color pallet, there is a custom PMS charge of $30 per color request. If you have a specific PMS color match, it is the customer’s responsibility to notify UrbanFly Apparel or your project manager during the ordering/quote process.
Certain fabrics require an addition charge to account for special preparation for printing and inks.
- 100% polyester garments: Add 25% to print pricing.
- Mesh Jerseys and Shorts: Add 50% to print pricing.
- Vertical Sleeve or Leg Print: Add 50% to print pricing.
- Imprints Above Pockets: Add 50% to print pricing.
- Nylon (Jackets): Add 50% to print pricing.
- Nylon (Bags): Add 25% to print pricing.
Specialty inks including glitter, puff, water based ink, discharge, reflective and polyester formulas have an additional charge and may affect production time slightly. Please inquire via a quote.
Custom Team Names and Numbers
Below are the personalization options and pricing. Excellent for team apparel and sports organizations. Pricing is for our standard heat applied vinyl. For specialty colors and materials, additional costs apply.
Embroidery Alternative Personalization
Excellent option for personalization of items such as apparel inlcuding shirts and jackewts as well as accessories including bags. For left chest personalization, options include our standard heat applied vinyl availavble in several popular colors.
A second option is our strip flock material, which has an embroidery/sued feel to it. This is also available in several popular colors. (see personalization materials in the next tab)
Professional Heat Applied Vinyl
is use for many application for personalization including jackets, t-shirts, jerseys and other apparel. Here are many popular colors we may carry.
is an excellent alternative to embroidery or where you want to give your design some dimension. It has a soft, suede feel and comes in several popular colors. Below are some of the popular colors we may carry.
Unfortunately, we can not accept customer supplied garments for production/decoration. We offer a wide variety of apparel options through several of our suppliers, which are available in our online product catalogs.
SPOT COLOR AND HALF-TONED DESIGNS
Vectored based formatted artwork is preferred (Illustrator, vector EPS, vector PDF)
- Convert all text to outlines/curves.
- Convert all colors to spot colors and label with the appropriate print color using the Screen Print Color Chart as reference.
- Make sure stroke paths are a minimum of 4 points.
- Artwork is scaled to size (size it is to be printed).

If you do not have vectored artwork
Follow these steps below to submit alternative formats. Please note, there is a $25 charge for our designers to convert your artwork into vector format.
- Use a professional design program such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or Corel Draw to create your designs in CYMK color mode.
- Artwork must be a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, transparent background and scaled to size (the size to be printed).
- Separate all colors to their own layer and label with appropriate print colors using the Screen Print Color Chart as reference.
- Convert all text to smart objects or shapes.
- Submit artwork in PSD Format (we will also accept PNG, JPEG, PDF format).

Note: We do not accept BMP, GIF, Word Documents or low quality images taken from the internet. As a rule – quality artwork yields a quality print. So take the time and invest in creating your artwork in hi-resolution.

If you do not have a logo, we offer design service for a fraction of what other screen printers would charge. There is a lot of work that goes into creating an amazing design so pricing will depend on the complexity of your request.
Pricing listed on this page is for spot color printing. If you require Simulated or Process Printing, please contact us for a quote. Please note, customer must supply production ready artwork for this printing method as we do not offer design service for this due to the complexity of details.
Follow the care instructions to get the most out of your apparel. We suggest hang drying of all garments as placing items in the dryer causes the materials to fade and fray over time.
